My top 201 Doctor Who episode ranking

This seems to be the most popular page on my site! Obviously I haven’t updated in quite some time. I need to get caught up with rankings through “The Name of the Doctor”, the most recent episode as I type this. Thanks to everyone who’s viewed and commented!

Doctor Who magazine ran the top 200 episodes a few years ago, culled from fan surveys. Needless to say, my results are somewhat different, though until I sat down and organized the stories from favorite to least favorite, I’m not sure I could have told you just exactly what order everything was in.

Ok, so I still haven’t updated this to reflect the new season. And my views of a few episodes have changed recently. Silence in the Library should be higher than I’ve placed it, for one thing. When I have a spare hour or two, I seriously need to redo my list!

  1. 1. Family of Blood/ Human Nature
    2. Girl in the Fire Place
    3. The Next Doctor
    4. Love and Monsters
    5. The end of Time 1 and 2

  2. Kevin, I see you’re a fan of the new series. I think most of those are pretty good, with the exception of Love and Monsters, which I just loathe. I suppose that’s obvious, since I put it in last place!

  3. Why is Voyage so low? I thought it was great!

I’ve never understood the hate for Love and Monsters. I think it’s alright.

Edge of Destruction seems to be low on everyone’s lists. It may be one of my favourite First Doctor episodes and I can understand why most people dislike it.

My personal favourite is most likely War Games. I love Patrick Troughton and to me that’s when him and his stories were at their peek. It’s great how he ended on such a high note.

    • Thanks for posting! Not a fan of Voyage of the Damned… too “action movie” and clichéd for me, and by the point it aired I was sick of Russell Davies preaching about evil rich and evil corporations. And the Angels felt like a blatant rip off of Robots of Death.

I might feel differently if I watched it again, who knows? I did like Astrid.
